The Open Betting 2020 Preview
The Open is typically the hardest major to predict and the 2020 Open being hosted by Royal St George’s in Kent is no different. This can be seen in the fact that 12 Opens have been won by a different player. The Open Odds 2020 currently has Brooks Koepka and Rory McIlroy as co-favorites at 11/1.
Koepka had an astounding year in 2019 and is the current world number one. He won one major last year in the shape of the US PGA and came 2nd, 2nd, 4th in the other three. His finish of fourth in the 2019 Open proved his credentials for Links Golf and he will go to the competition with confidence providing he has a good start to the 2020 season.
McIlroy is a previous Open winner but he will be mightily disappointed by his performance when the Open returned to his native Ireland in 2019. He held the course record at Portrush but he never recovered from a Bogey 4 on the opening hole. His second round was astounding and he nearly made the cut, falling short by one shot. Fellow Northern Irishman Darren Clarke was victorious the last time the Open was at this venue and he will be looking to emulate him. His ability of Links golf cannot be questioned. He was tied second in 2018 and tied fourth in 2017 to go with his sole victory. He has a massive chance again if he can start well.
There are many other players with notable chances including Dustin Johnson and Justin Rose but our tip is neither of them or Koepka and McIlroy. We are going for an English win in the shape of Tommy Fleetwood at 22/1. The 28-year-old from Southport turned pro in 2010 and won his first title in 2013. His break through year was 2017 when he finished fourth in the US Open. The following year he finished second in the US Open and it was in the 2019 Open that he showed he has a real talent for Link Golf. He finished second to Shane Lowry after finishing tied 12the previous year. We think this is the year he could go one better on a course that is sure to suit him.
