Unsurprisingly Roscommon is located in County Roscommon, around 75km north of Galway. The racecourse holds both flat and jump racing. The held unofficial meetings from 1837 before their first meeting under rules was way back in 1885. Meetings are only held on a Monday or Tuesday between May and September. There are nine meetings a year at this right-handed course that is 1 mile 2 furlongs in length.
Notable Races
The Grade 3 Kilbegnet Novice Chase is the most high profile race held over larger obstacles at Roscommon. It regularly attracts a strong field and many horses have gone on to contest and win Grade 1 races.
In terms of flat racing, the Listed level Lenebane Stakes is the most prestigious race. Held in July as part of the Roscommon Festival the race is held over 1m 4f and can be contested by three-year-olds and above that have not won a Group 1 or 2.
