The US Open, more officially known as the United States Open Championship, it the third of the four golfing majors and is held at a different course every year in Mid-June. The US Open is renowned for being the most difficult of the majors with low scores, and even those over par, known to win the event. The course is strategically made difficult and accurate drivers tend to be the players that revel at these events. In this article we are going to preview the US Open 2020 and take a look at the best betting sites that offer amazing value when it comes to the biggest sporting events:
US Open Betting Preview
The Winged Foot Golf Club in New York will host the US Open 2020. The US Open has always been difficult to predict. Whilst there have been various winners since the millenium with only Tiger Woods, Retief Goosen and Brooks Koepka winning the event more than once, recent years have seen the top players in the world experience success in the event.
Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Jordan Spieth, Justin Rose and Rory McIlroy have all won the event since 2010. That said, there was a surprise winner in 2019 in the shape of America’s Gary Woodland.
The US Open 2020 Betting Odds currently have is Koepka at 8/1 and he absolutely should be,. Not only did he win in 2017 and 2018 whilst he came second in 2019 when he bidded to become the first player to win three events in a row since Willie Anderson in 1905. When he finished runner up. He shot under par in every round, scoring 69, 69, 68 and 68 but still found himself three shots adrift of Woodland. His driving in 2019 has been phenomenally accurate and he has a strong change of winning his third championship out of four in 2020.
Another former winner is second favourite, Dustin Johnson. The big hitting American can destroy courses when he puts it all together but his putting regularly lets him down. He disappointed in 2019 when he finished T35. This wasn’t helped when he shot 3+ in the final round and only hit 11 greens in regulation. He has shown a liking for the US Open aside from his sole victory. He finished third in 2018, second in 2015 and fourth in 2014. It is easy to see why he is at the head of the betting but will certainly be hoping he can close out better than he did last year.
Rory McIlroy is the next in the betting but we consider him to be far too short for this event. Since he won the event in 2011 has missed the cut on four out of seven occasions and his best showing was when he tied ninth in 2015. He has struggled for driving accuracy at the event, something that totally rules you out of the competition. We would rather look elsewhere than back him at 9/1.
The next principals in the betting are Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas. However we are looking for a bit of value further down the betting. Xander Schauffele has only been on the scene since 2017 and has risen to prominence incredibly swiftly. Out of the eleven majors he has contested he has finished in the top six in five of them. This is astonishing form. What’s more, his form at the US Open reads 5th, 6th, 3rd. When you consider he is 28/1 we think he has serious each way credentials.
US Open Betting Tips
With all things considered we think it is impossible to ignore Brooks Koepka given his recent form, particularly in the US Open. He revels in the conditions set and whilst he is 8/1 he could be somewhat short after round 1. The US Open Golf Odds 2019 had it wrong but we don’t think they do in 2020 and the US Open favourites will come good. We also feel Shauffele is a tremendous each-way bet and worth a punt if he retains his form by mid-June 2020.
