Commonly referred to as Troyes, the club currently compete in Ligue 1, the top division in French football. They are one of the newest clubs in professional French football, having only been founded in their current edition in 1986.

Troyes currently plays their home matches at the Stade de l’Aube, which has been the club’s home since they were founded. The stadium became the first to use the AirFibr hybrid turf that has now become extremely popular throughout France. The stadium holds a maximum capacity of 20,400.

Troyes Honours

Given their short history behind them, it’s not surprising to learn that Troyes don’t have a long list of honours to reel off. They are yet to win any of the three major trophies in French football in Ligue 1, the Coupe de France or the Coupe de la Ligue. Troyes do have two league titles to their name, however, both of which were won in Ligue 2, the second tier of French football. The first came in the 2014/15 season, as they finished 13 points clear at the top of the table to win promotion alongside Angers and Gazelec Ajaccio. They won their second Ligue 2 title in the 2020/21 season, this time finishing clear of Clermont Foot and Toulouse in the race to get into the top flight.

Troyes also won the old UEFA Intertoto Cup in 2001, thus earning their place in the UEFA Cup off the back of it. They saw off WIT Georgia, AIK and Wolfsburg to reach a final with Premier League side Newcastle. Having drawn 0-0 in their home leg, Troyes secured a 4-4 draw in the away leg at St. James’ Park to win on away goals. Troyes have also won the Nationale 2.

Troyes History

This is the third edition of a professional club in Troyes, with the first being created in 1900. Association Sportive Troyenne et Savinienne ran until 1963 when they were relegated from the professional levels of French football, leading to Troyes Omnisports (later renamed Troyes Aube Football) being formed in 1967. However, back-to-back relegations in 1979 led to the club declaring bankruptcy and ceasing to exist. The most recent club was then formed in 1986.

In September 2020, Troyes become part of the City Football Group (CFG) when they announced they had purchased a majority stake in the club. They are part of the CFG alongside Manchester City, Girona, New York City, Melbourne City and Palermo, among others. By the end of their first season within the group, Troyes had won promotion to Ligue 1 as champions.
