Preston North End look to continue their amazing climb up the table when they host Middlesbrough at the Deepdale Stadium in the midweek action. Boro are looking to snatch the top spot from Norwich, who hold a two-point advantage. However, Tony Pulis’ men need to be wary of Leeds United who are just one point behind. Preston have opened up a four-point advantage over the drop zone due to their recent run of form. Follow all our predictions, free bets, football bets and betting tips below.
Betting Tips for the game
Preston picked up a comprehensive 4-1 success over Blackburn Rovers to make it one of their comprehensive performances since the 4-0 success over Wigan back at the start of October. Preston are unbeaten in the last eight games across all competitions.
Middlesbrough were able to hold on to a 2-1 victory over Brentford at Griffin Park despite a late fightback from the home team. The North East outfit are unbeaten in seven games across all competitions.
Preston recently suffered a home defeat on penalties – after a 2-2 draw – against Middlesbrough in the League Cup earlier in the campaign. Boro had picked up a 3-2 win in the last league visit to Deepdale Stadium back in January. Our betting tips and predictions expect a draw.

Middlesbrough are at a price of 2.62 for a win whereas Preston are at 2.90 for the same outcome. Both clubs have been on a splendid run of form over the last few weeks. The form has helped Middlesbrough sustain a promotion challenge whereas Preston have been able to move away from the drop. A game at the Riverside Stadium might have produced a favourable result for Middlesbrough, but the Deepdale Stadium may act as a stronghold for Preston on this recent form. Alex Neil’s men have gone four games without a defeat at home and our preview would back a draw.

Correct Score odds
Preston have had some big matches at the Deepdale Stadium but Middlesbrough pay a lot of attention to their defence. It is not a surprise that a Tony Pulis team has the best defensive record. Boro’s defence has conceded just nine league goals with the closest ranking team conceding almost twice this figure. Our correct score prediction expects a 1-1 draw.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals odds
Middlesbrough have one of the best defensive records in the top two English divisions. It is not a surprise that just two of the last 10 games involving Middlesbrough have produced more than 2.5 goals. We don’t expect a change in this front and our total goals prediction would go with under 2.5 goals.

First Goalscorer odds
Callum Robinson has been in excellent form for Preston, but the 23-year-old’s hamstring injury places Preston at a serious disadvantage. In his absence, Middlesbrough’s Britt Assombalonga may be the best choice to come up with the first goal. Assombalonga has scored only once against Preston, but our first goalscorer prediction would back Assombalonga.
