Newcastle United welcome Chelsea for Sunday’s Premier League showdown at St James’ Park. The Magpies have been pretty unlucky since the start of the campaign and occupy a bottom-half position with just one point. Chelsea have no such issues under new manager Maurizio Sarri and they are already into the top-four spots after back-to-back wins over Huddersfield Town and Arsenal. Follow all our predictions, free bets, football bets and betting tips below.
Betting Tips for the game
Newcastle secured their first point of the campaign after they played out a 0-0 draw at Cardiff City last weekend. The Magpies should nevertheless be frustrated after missing an injury-time penalty.
Chelsea bagged their second victory as they beat Arsenal 3-2 in the London derby. The Blues’ defensive vulnerabilities were quite visible during the game but they took their chances with Marcos Alonso netting an 81st-minute winner.
Newcastle previously faced Chelsea at St James’ Park where they celebrated a comfortable 3-0 victory. Ayoze Perez starred with a brace which ensured the Magpies continued their recent unbeaten streak against Chelsea at home. Our betting tips and predictions anticipate a draw.

Newcastle are given a price of 5.50 for a win whilst Chelsea are at 1.66 for the same. The Magpies may have only ended the previous season in the 10th spot but their performances at home were particularly impressive as they secured 10 out of the 18 points available against the top-six. Rafael Benitez’s side were also impressive against Spurs this term where they could have picked up a point and their manager may seek to frustrate the visitors. Our preview expects a draw.

Correct Score odds
Newcastle have already scored in both their matches this season and they should fancy testing the Blues’ defence which was in tatters at one point during the Arsenal game. Since 2011, Newcastle have dominated the fixture at St James Park with an 80% win record and they should frustrate the Blues with a draw being a probable result. Our correct score prediction fancies a 1-1 draw.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals odds
At St James’ Park, Newcastle have generally played out low-scoring games and last season, 63% of the matches resulted in a maximum of two goals. As such, we are anticipating another tight contest with Benitez likely to setup his team to defend against Chelsea to start with. Our total goals prediction fancies less than 2.5 goals.

First Goalscorer odds
Ayoze Perez was the key tormentor for the Blues last time around as he bagged a second half brace during the 3-1 win in May. The 25-year-old is pretty strong with his finishing skills when put through on goal and he could once more pose a threat, should the Blues be exploited on the flanks. Our first goalscorer prediction would back Perez.
