Ipswich Town are at Portman Road for the weekend’s league meeting against Stoke City. The hosts have been in the relegation places for nearly the entirety of the campaign and they are facing the genuine prospect of getting demoted with a 10-point deficit to safety. Stoke have been in a dismal run of form and their recent winless run has dropped them to the bottom half of the standings with an 11-point gap to the drop zone.

Betting Tips for the game

Ipswich managed to produce a good performance against promotion-chasing Derby County as they managed a 1-1 draw. Tom Lawrence opened the scoring within two minutes but Jon Nolan managed to level the proceedings before the hour mark.

Stoke, meanwhile, ended their run of three successive league defeats after securing a 0-0 draw against Wigan Athletic in midweek. They are currently on a run of four matches without finding the scoresheet.

The last encounter between the sides was at the Bet365 Stadium in December where Stoke bagged a 2-0 win. The last meeting at Ipswich’s home ended in a 1-1 draw 11 years ago. Our betting tips and predictions favour a draw.

Match odds

Stoke go into the game as the preferred side to win but their winless streak has given a clear indication over their struggles in the attack front. Ipswich will fancy getting a positive result, but that may not result in a victory due to their own problems at the back. Our preview is to go for a share of the spoils.

Ipswich Town win odds: 4.20

Stoke City win odds: 2.00

Correct Score odds

Both sides have struggled to find the cutting edge in front of goal and they have netted just twice in the past five Championship matches. However, that trend could change over the weekend with both teams in need of a lift, though it may not necessarily result in maximum points for either team. Our correct score prediction is to go with a 1-1 draw.

Over/Under 2.5 Goals odds

Ipswich may possess the worst-defence in the division but at Portman Road, they have kept things tight with 75% of their matches producing less than three goals. The same was the case in the reverse fixture, which Stoke prevailed with a 2-0 score, between the sides. Our total goals prediction fancies less than 2.5 goals.

First Goalscorer odds

Sam Vokes has been a regular feature for Stoke since his winter switch from Burnley and he should be the player to watch in this game. The Wales international has already been guilty of missing a penalty kick for Stoke in his opening three games but he can still be fancied to score the opener with his strong aerial attributes. Vokes has netted twice in nine attempts against Ipswich. Our first goalscorer prediction is to go with Vokes.
