Reigning world champions France will be looking to defend their crown at the World Cup in Qatar. Victors after a stunning tournament in Russia four years ago, France are once again one of the favourites to win the tournament this winter. They now have the opportunity to be the first country since Brazil in 1958 and 1962 to win back-to-back World Cups. Find betting tips and predictions for all of France’s World Cup matches here.

Road To The World Cup

Qualification to the World Cup proved to be comfortable for France, despite not necessarily playing their best football in UEFA Group D. They finished the group with a six-point buffer to second place, despite only winning five of their eight qualifiers, drawing the other three. It may not have always been vintage France, but it was enough to get them over the line.

The same can be said of France’s recent form, too. They have managed just one win in their last six matches coming into the World Cup, losing three during that period. Didier Deschamps certainly would’ve wished for his team to be in better form but will know that it’s going to be all about peaking at the right moment.

France have been drawn into World Cup Group D alongside Australia, Denmark and Tunisia.

Key Players

Golden boy Kylian Mbappe will be at the centre of all of the attention surrounding France. Now established as one of the best players in the world, Mbappe’s frightening pace makes him one of the most feared forwards we have seen.

Antoine Griezmann has often shown his best form in a France shirt and did so during qualifying with six goals, while Karim Benzema will be looking to add to his already incredible Ballon d’Or-winning year. France are slowly but surely adding more exciting young talent to their squad and the likes of William Saliba, Aurelien Tchouameni, Eduardo Camavinga and Christopher Nkunku will all hope to get the chance to shine on the big stage.

World Cup History

France have a proud history in the World Cup, being one of just six nations in the tournament’s history to have won multiple titles. Their two victories came 20 years apart, with their maiden victory at their home World Cup coming in 1998. Then, Didier Deschamps’ team added a second crown four years ago. They may be sitting here today with three World Cup titles to their name had an infamous moment of madness from Zinedine Zidane not occurred during the 2006 World Cup Final defeat to Italy on penalties. France have also had the ability to completely implode at the World Cup, too, having been eliminated at the group stage of two of their last five World Cups despite having incredibly talented squads.
