Bundesliga Betting Preview

This season is set to be one of the most fiercely contested Bundesliga seasons in recent memory. Whilst Bayern Munich are looking to win their eighth title in a row many observers believe this is the season the run could come to an end.

Bayern Munich will still begin the season as favourites and it is obvious as to why. The have made a number of defensive signings and have also signed Ivan Perisic. However, they have lost two of their main players in the shape of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery. It is also worth noting that if it had not been for a disastrous drop in form by Dortmund late in the season Munich would not have been champions and it was out of their hands. There also set to be a massive change for the club during the season with Uli Hoeness, the club president and chairman, is stepping down in November. Will this unsettle a club which is already dealing with the loss of Ribery and Robben?

One of the club’s most likely to must Bayern Munich close is of course Borussia Dortmund. Impressive manager Lucien Favre is set to take charge for his second season and their is a great belief that they can go one better than last season. This is understandable after shelling out £130 million this summer with the purchases of Thorgan Hazard and Julian Brandt. They also have veteran Mats Hummels back from Munich and he is sure to add stability to the already sturdy defense. The increasingly improving Dortmund have a real chance of stopping Munich’s run, particularly considering the upheaval going on at the dominant force in Germany.

The contenders do not stop there but the relatively newly formed RB Leipzig are considered a genuine threat. They were formed just 10 years ago but are a serious force to be reckoned with. The RB of course stands for Red Bull and they have bank rolled Leipzig into this position. This is not the way German football tends to works and most people would like them to fail, however they have a real chance. With players such Dayot Upamecano, Yussuf Poulsen and Timo Werner staying on despite links with other clubs, they are going to be as strong as ever this season. They have done a small amount of strengthening and have a new manager in place in the shape of Julian Nagelsmann. The manager is just 32 years-of-age and is tipped for great things after leaving Hoffenheim at the end of last season.

The other major threats to the top end of the league are Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Mochengladbach, That said Leverkusen had a shocking start last season and they did extremely well to finish fourth once a new manager came into place. Mochengladbach only missed out on Champions League qualification by three points and have a new manager in place. There is every chance they can go one step further this season but are money would still be on Leverkusen to again finish in the top four.

Our Prediction

That said, we are tipping up Borussia Dortmund at a decent price to win the Bundesliga and shatter Bayern Munich’s dreams of an eighth consecutive title. We feel RB Leipzig will need at least one more year with Nagelsmann at the helm before they can make a serious push for the title.
