History of Wimbledon
Wimbledon (Wimbledon Championships) is the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world. It was first held way back in 1877 and has remained in its current venue the All England Club since that date. It is the only Grand Slam still held on the original grass surface, with the others now being played on hard/clay courts.
Wimbledon is the third of the four Grand Slam tournaments over the tennis season, taking place over a two week period at the end of June and beginning of July.
Wimbledon betting is very popular nowadays. With the rise in tennis betting on the internet as well as being the most popular of the four Grand Slams, it’s not a surprise that Wimbledon gets a lot of bets from avid punters.

Popular Wimbledon players in recent times
The most popular Wimbledon player over the last ten years has been without doubt Roger Federer who has dominated the competition. Rafael Nadal is another popular player and is showing his potential as a world class successor now Rodger Federer is nearing 30. The British favourite of course is Andy Murray and there are always a lot of Wimbledon bets going on him during the tournament.
When people think of women’s tennis they always think of Serena or Venus Williams. The Williams sisters are a powerful force in tennis and have won most things going between them. Other female tennis players have dipped in and out of the limelight Some for their looks and some for their tennis skills. Maria Sharapova is one who entered the scene with her tennis skills, winning Wimbledon in 2004, but now has a modelling contract as well.
Popular Wimbledon bets
When placing Wimbledon bets a lot of people are short of ideas on what to bet on other than who will win the match. First of all there are outright bets. These bets deal with who you think will win the tournament, who will be number 1 player in the next ranking update etc…
Just as popular are bets within actual Wimbledon matches. You can bet on quite a few things. Set betting is popular – saying what the final score will be in terms of sets. E.g. 3-1, 3-0 in the mens game. You could even bet on a tie break being played if you thought there would be some close games. Wimbledon betting also allows you to bet on how many games will be played in a match, quite often in an under/over market where you say if there will be more or less than X number of games.
