About the Austrailan Open
The Australian Open is the first of the four Grand Slam tournaments held in the tennis season. It takes place during January in Melbourne Park and is played on hard courts similar to those of the US Open.
When it began, the trounament was first named the Australasian Championships. In 1927 the name was changed and it became the Australian Championships. A final name changed occurred in 1969 when the name changed to the current “Australian Open”.
Australian Open betting is very popular being the first Grand Slam of the season. The Australian Open often has the highest attendances of the four Grand Slams and this reflects in its betting popularity as well. People placing Australian Open bets have the additional choice of several well known Australian bookmakers to place their bets at. These include Centrebet and Canbet.

Competitions

In addition to this there are tournaments for juniors, seniors and wheelchair players.
Most Australian Open bets of course go on the singles events, but there are a small amount of bets on the other events too.
Previous men’s singles winners
The first men’s champion was Rodney Heath in 1905, back when it was named the Australasian Championships. Since then the tournament has been won many different players. In the early days the winners of the Australian Open were always from Australia because of the difficulty of travelling to the event. In the 2000′s Andre Agassi won the title three times before he retired in 2006. Rodger Federer has won the title four times and Rafael Nadal, once.

Popular players in recent times
Of course the most popular men’s player recently has been Roger Federer. He has dominated the tennis scene for a while now and has won everything going. Because of this, odds on him are usually low, so if you want to bet on him you will have to place a lot of money to get a good return. Other famous men’s players include Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic
Throughout the naughties the womans tennis scene has been dominated by the Williams sisters, Serena and Venus. However Venus Williams has yet to win an Australian Open title, with her best effort a runners up spot to her sister in 2003. Other high achieving players in the last 10 years include Maria Sharapova, Ana Ivanovic, Justine Henin and Jennifer Capriati.
Austrailan Open betting
Being the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, Australian Open bets are popular. People who bet on the Australian Open know that player’s form at the beginning of the year can more random, so they can get better odds before the tournament begins. Once the players start playing the odds will change to match their current form and potential. It is difficult to predict who will win the tournament each year so the odds are usually high, and this makes bets on the Australian Open and tennis in general good if you know what to look for. As said at the beginning of the article, Australian Open betting is popular with the Australian bookamakers Canbet and Centrebet.
