US Open 2009 betting

The US Open starts on Monday and this fourth and final Grand Slam tournament is sure to entertain in both the betting and watching aspects. The 2008 US Open saw Roger Federer take the men’s trophy as he thrashed Andy Murray in the final. The women’s title is held by Serena Williams after she defeated Jelena Jankovic in the 2008 final.

The US Open’s hard court play creates an all-round different game from the other 3 Grand Slams and the toll of injuries throughout the year can throw out some surprise wins. The US Open rules are slightly different from the other 3 Grand Slam tournaments. There are final-set tie breaks whereas in the other 3 tournaments someone has to win by two games. This can add more pressure to be more consistent throughout each match.

Britain’s Andy Murray has been seeded 2nd, with Federer in 1st. Rafael Nadal returns from injury which saw him miss Wimbledon, and he is assigned 3rd seed. His absence from Wimbledon was filled by US competitor Andy Roddick, who pushed Federer all the way in the 14 set final.

Serena Williams will no doubt be frustrated with the seeding system again as she comes in 2nd after Dinara Safina. The 2nd sister Venus Williams is seeded 3rd. Maria Sharapova is seeded down in 29th.
