This article aims to help you with all your Premiership betting for the new season.

First off, lets look at the big team news. Probably the biggest of the summer was Christiano Ronaldo’s £80 million move to Real Madrid. Can Utd still win the premiership without him? The answer is that it could be a struggle. If you look at the other teams in the big 4, they all have a talented midfielder who drives the team and is arguably the best players in that team.

Who will win the Premiership this season?

Chelsea have Lampard, Liverpool have Gerrard, Arsenal have Fabregas and now Arshavin too. Then the top two teams outside the big four for the past few seasons have been Everton and Aston Villa. These teams are there due to influence from their big midfield players as well. Everton have Cahill and Arteta and Villa have Ashley Young. Now who do Manchester United have? Ronaldo’s replacement Antonio Valencia only scored 3 goals last season for Wigan and players like Scholes and Giggs are too old to play a big part now. There isn’t any sign of a youngster that looks like he is going to emulate what other big midfield players do for other clubs.

It could be time for someone else to win the Premiership this season. Maybe Liverpool or Chelsea?

The 2nd biggest news of the summer also comes from Manchester….but Manchester City this time. They have spent big this summer and are hoping to break into the top 4. Whether they can do this depends on a few things. The first is whether Mark Hughes can make the team gel. Its one thing buying a lot of expensive players, but its another making them play well together. They need to have balance. The second depends on how well Arsenal fair. In the first half of last season Arsenal didn’t do too well and this allowed Villa to sit in their 4th spot for quite a while. Arsenal lack experience in their team of youngsters and sometimes this is their downfall. If they are not careful, they could end up losing their place in the top 4 this season.

Now to the new teams for this year. After last season’s shock relegations which saw 2 big teams – Newcastle and Middlesbrough go down, we have a selection of new teams as always. These are Wolverhampton Wanderers, Birmingham City and the play-off team, Burnley. Wolves scored an impressive 80 goals in the Championship last season to win the league. Can strikers Ebanks-blake, Doyle and Iwelumo do the business for them this season? Burnley look early favourites to go straight back down.

There are a few teams that stand out to be in the relegation battle this year. As we have just said, Burnley will be favourites to come last and are very unlucky in their first 5 fixtures which include Man Utd, Cheslea, Liverpool and Everton! The other 2 new teams will also be favourites to be in the bottom 3. Wolves and Birmingham came 1st and 2nd in the Championship last season, but most of the other Premiership teams are looking stronger than them at the moment. Stoke and Hull, last years newcomers who managed to stay up will also have a high chance of going back down after just saying up last season. Lastly, Portsmouth could be in trouble due to their club ownership problems and selling of high profile players.

So what is good to bet on this year?

There are always lots of exciting things to bet on at the start of the season, so we will try and select a few for you. Odds accurate of post date.

Chelsea have been quite quiet. Only Zhirkov as a big signing.

  2. John Says:

I think Liverpool will win it this year. Last year they had so many draws. If they had won a few of those games, then they would have been top.
