England play Slovenia on Saturday as a warm-up for their mid-week qualifying game against Croatia. After a good second half display in the 2-2 draw with Holland, England are showing they might have what it takes to go far in the world cup next year. The meeting with Slovenia at Wembley will probably see Capello play some of his fringe players without risking some of his key names.
John Terry is likely to be left out as he has a small groin injury and Ferdinand is not part of the squad at all because of his thigh injury. This means that Lescott could combine with Upson in central defence. Some of the players that impressed last time like Defoe, Carlton Cole and James Milner could all get a run-out at some point in the game, if not from the start.
Slovenia’s last game was a 5-0 victory over San Marino, which although big, should not be too much to worry about for England.
