Team GB v Canada Betting Odds

Posted on 03 August 2012 by Joseph in Football, headline

Great Britain’s women take part in the quarter-finals of the Olympic football tournament this evening when they go head to head with Canada for a spot in the final four and a chance of winning a medal.

Team GB have been fantastic in the competition so far, winning all three of their games and not conceding a single goal.

Hope Powell will be delighted with the form her side have shown, especially in their last encounter against gold medal favourites Brazil where they took the match 1-0.

Now, Powell will be hoping that her women can take that form into this match and know a similar kind of performance would put them in great shape to make the semi-finals.

Defender Stephanie Houghton has been the unlikely hero for Team GB this summer as she has scored in each match, making her a big contender for the golden boot award.

They will hope that the crowd can come and support them as home advantage could play a massive part in their chances.

The likes of Kelly Smith will be hopeful of really raising their game on the big stage. When Smith is at her best she can be tough for opponents to handle.

As for Canada, they had a mixed time in the group stages and qualified for the quarter-finals despite finishing in third place.

The Canadians won, drew and lost their three encounters in the group. It was a spirited performance against group winners Sweden that helped them qualify and they drew the match 2-2.

They have scored six goals in their three matches so are certainly capable of scoring goals and have a attack for Team GB to wary of.

However, they have been fairly leaky in defence and know that they will have to step up if they are to quality this evening.

Match Odds

It is no surprise than Britain are the favourites given their form and the face they are on home soil. You can back them at 1.91 (10/11) with SportingBet.

Canada will know it will take their best performance to reach the semi-finals, they are available at 4.00 (3/1) with BoyleSports.

A draw and the match going to extra time then has odds of 3.40 (12/5) with BetFred.

First Goal-Scorer

Despite her three goals in the tournament so far, Houghton is still not one of the favourites to open the scoring. She is being offered at 11.00 (10/1) with Ladbrokes.

Christine Sinclair of Canada can then be backed at 7.00 (6/1) with William Hill.

Recommended Bet

Team GB could put out another superb performance here and take the game comfortably. You can bet on them to win the match 3-0 with odds of 17.00 (16/1) with SkyBet.
