The second Test match of the three match series between England and West Indies gets underway from Trent Bridge.
England took the first Test by five wickets in a fairly comfortable victory, however West Indies certainly did put up a good fight, especially in their second innings.
Andrew Strauss’ men now go into Friday with some restored confidence after a frustrating winter and they will be looking to win again this time out to keep momentum building for the series against South Africa later in the summer.
Strauss himself silenced any critics that he did have regarding his personal form with a century. It was a superb innings from the Captain who made an almost faultless 122.
Stuart Broad ended up with eleven wickets in the Test match after taking seven in the first innings and four in the second, a performance which earned him the Man of the Match award.
The resilience of Alastair Cook and Ian Bell in the second innings all but won the first Test at Lords. England did find themselves at 57-4 chasing 191. However Cook and Bell managed a partnership of 132 that left the team just two runs shy of victory.
As for West Indies, they were impressive at Lords and at one point looked to have England in real trouble.
West Indies have not won a Test series in England since 1988 and know that they now have it all to do if they are going to change the record book.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul was yet again the main man for his side, the world number one batsman in the world made 178 runs over the two innings and was dismissed just once.
Kemar Roach was the pick of the bowlers for the West Indies, chipping in with six wickets in the match. Roach bowled with good pace and aggression and will be looking to take this to Trent Bridge.
