Championship Promotion Race Betting Tips

Posted on 25 April 2012 by Joseph in Football, headline

The race for second place will go right to the wire in the Championship this season, with just two points separating second place Southampton and third place West Ham it could be a very nervous final game for both sets of fans.

Southampton play at home to already relegated Coventry, so will be confident that they can secure back to back promotions with a win.

Nigel Adkins will make sure his side go into the game fully focused on the job ahead and not worry about what West Ham are doing.

Adkins’ men did have the chance to secure promotion at Middlesbrough over the weekend but ended up losing 2-1, after taking the lead in the first minute it would have been a very frustrating afternoon for the club.

It has been a fantastic season for the St Mary’s side, they now just need one final push to make it back to the Premier League for the first time since 2005.

As for West Ham, they kept their hopes of automatic promotion alive with a very impressive 2-1 win at Leicester on Monday night. West Ham play at home to Hull this weekend.

The Hammers may regret a few missed chances towards the end of the match though, with goal difference potentially playing a massive part in who ends up in second place.

Southampton’s goal difference is three better than The Hammers.

Sam Allardyce’s men are now unbeaten in five games so take a good run of form into the game against Hull.

Home form has been frustrating for the fans at Upton Park this season, with the side winning just one of their last eight on their own turf.

Allardyce will know that nothing else but a win will do on Sunday if they are to have any chance of reaching the automatic promotion places.

Match Odds

Both teams go into their respective games as clear favourites with bookmakers. Southampton are  1.33(1/3) to take all three points with Paddy Power.

You can back West Ham at 1.5 (1/2) with BetFred.

To Be Promoted

The Saints are still massive favourites to be promoted from the Championship with odds of 1.10 (1/10) with Coral.

The Hammers are available at 2.50 (6/4) with VC Bet to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Recommended Bet

Southampton go into their game knowing a win will see them promoted. A recommended bet is for Nigel Adkins side to do this in style and win 5-0 which you can back at 26.00 (25/1) with Ladbrokes.
