Cardiff City v Crystal Palace betting odds

Posted on 22 January 2012 by trooney in Football, headline

Cardiff City will have to overcome a first leg 1-0 defeat if they are to reach the final of the Carling Cup at the expense of Crystal Palace.

The first leg went with the home side, and the Bluebirds will be hoping for a similar outcome in this one as they are roared on by a packed out Cardiff City Stadium.

Manager Malky Mackay will believe that this game is not yet beyond them, and will hold out high hopes of turning things around.

Should they advance, the Welsh club will be playing at Wembley for no less than the third time since 2008, having played in two play-off finals and one FA Cup final.

However, they are yet to win there, and would dearly love the opportunity to try and overcome their Wembley hoodoo.

Palace, who knocked out Manchester United in the previous round, will have other ideas of course, and will be confident of holding onto the advantage they took in the first leg.

Manager Dougie Freedman has this week come out and accused the Bluebirds of being “scared stiff”, thanks to their history in big matches such as this.

These two sides have already face each other in the league this season at the Cardiff City Stadium. On that occasion, the home side ran out 2-0 winners – a result they would dearly love to repeat this time around, knowing that it would be enough to take them to Wembley.

This will be the fifth time these two have come up against each other in the competition. Of the previous four encounters, there have been three Palace wins and one draw, with Cardiff still searching for that first win.

In all competitions, Palace have dominated this fixture, winning 29 and drawing 19 of the 61 meetings between the sides. Cardiff have only won 13 times.

Match Winner

Many bookmakers are backing Cardiff to come out of this one on top, despite the history between the two sides.

Bet365 are offering odds of 1.73 (8/11) that the Bluebirds will be the winners here, while Palace are considered to be the outsiders at 5.00 (4/1) with TitanBet. The draw is 3.50 (5/2) with SkyBet.

In terms of actually qualifying for the final, Crystal Palace find themselves as the favourites at 1.83 (5/6), while Ladbrokes are offering odds of 1.91 (10/11) for it to be Cardiff.

First Goalscorer

Scotland international, Kenny Miller is the 5.50 (9/2) favourite to open the scoring on Tuesday night, while his team mate Robert Earnshaw is 6.00 (5/1).

Rudy Gestede and Peter Whittingham both find themselves available at 8.00 (7/1) with some bookies, while Palace pair, Glenn Murray and Jermaine Easter are each 11.00 (10/1).

Steffan Iversen and Sean Scannell are each priced at 12.00 (11/1) while Cardiff duo Craig Conway and Aron Gunnarsson are each 15.00 (14/1).

Recommended Bet

The first leg was a cagey affair where one goal turned out to be the difference. So what are the chances of this being an open and expansive game filled with goals?

Well, for there to be more than 2.5 goals in this one, you can get a total return of £22 with BoyleSports if you place £10 on that happening.
