Tottenham v Arsenal

Posted on 19 April 2011 by trooney in Football, headline

Tottenham and Arsenal meet in the Premier League on Wednesday with both teams in need of the points from this eagerly anticipated North London derby.

The home side are still chasing a Champions League place, while Arsenal need the victory to keep up their title challenge.

Looking at Spurs to begin with, it has certainly been an eventful season for Harry Redknapp’s men with their exploits in Europe and their up and down form domestically.

Now their European adventure is over though with defeat to Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League recently, focus turns to finishing 4th in the Premier League.

They have got a taste for the best club competition in Europe and would love to be involved again next season. To do this, they need to pip Manchester City to 4th.

As things stand, they are three points behind the Eastlands club, with their crucial game in hand coming against the Gunners on Wednesday evening.

As for Arsene Wenger’s men, this game is a must win for them if they are to harbour any hope of catching Manchester United in the race for the Premier League title.

An indifferent run of form has seen them fall six points behind the Red Devils and they realistically need to win all of their remaining games if they are to have any chance at all.

This means they must go to White Hart Lane and win, something which will be extremely tough considering the pressure on them following a poor result against Liverpool last time out.

Looking at team news for this one, the game is likely to come too soon for Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate, but Peter Crouch returns for the home side following suspension.

With regards to Arsenal, Alex Song could start as he continues his comeback from injury, while fit again duo Wojciech Szczesny and Johan Djourou should keep their places.

Overall, this could be one of the most competitive North London derby for a while. Both teams desperately need the points and both fans will want the bragging rights. Don’t take your eyes of this one, it could be explosive.
