Kevin Pietersen will be involved for Surrey this evening as they take on Glamorgan in their latest Twenty20 fixture.
The England international is in the Surrey squad for two games this weekend as he looks to get some game time in-between England’s second and third test against Sri Lanka.
Surrey will be grateful for his services too after an inconsistent start to the 2011 Twenty20 campaign. They have won one and lost one so far and find themselves 6th in the table.
Things started superbly well for them with an 8 wicket victory over Glamorgan in their opening game. England international Steven Davies was the main man for them, blasting 92-not-out to see Surrey to victory.
A poor result followed though with a 7 wicket defeat to Hampshire at The Rose Bowl. Scoring 140-7 in their 20 overs, Surrey never looked like having enough. It was a stark reminder of how difficult Twenty20 cricket can be at times.
Perhaps a return to home soil this evening will help Surrey get their second Twenty20 victory of the season and see them move up the table.
Glamorgan will want to stop this happening though and they are in a similar position to Surrey at this stage with one victory and one defeat from their two games.
The Welsh side managed to defeat Middlesex in their opening game, but much like Surrey, they lost out to reigning Twenty20 Champions Hampshire last time out.
There have been some stand out performers for them though with Alviro Petersen smashing 72 from 48 balls against Middlesex and Graham Wagg taking five wickets across the two games.
Looking at the Twenty20 clash tonight, it is a rather tough one to call. Home advantage could suit Surrey, but Glamorgan will not be intimidated by their surroundings as they look to take the game to the hosts.
Much of the attention will of course be on Pietersen as he looks to get some runs under his belt before returning to England duty, but there is much more to keep an eye out for in this one.
Both teams could certainly use the win to push themselves up the table, so this should be a very competitive encounter at the Oval, hopefully with lots of big hitting on show too.
