Scotland are in friendly action this weekend when they attempt to defeat Brazil for the first-ever time.
Sunday’s game, which is being played at Arsenal’s Emirates stadium, will be the 10th time the two nations have met. Brazil have been victorious on seven occasions, with the other two games ending all square.
Scotland boss Craig Levein is determined to make history this weekend and admits that his team will be going all out to win the game.
The former Leicester City manager said: “Our intention is to go out and win the game. We’ve been setting milestones and I take great encouragement from our recent performance against Spain.”
Levein is of course referring to the 3-2 defeat to the World Champions in their recent Euro 2012 qualifying match. Scotland pushed their Spanish counterparts and despite the defeat, were very happy with the way they performed.
Since this game, Levein’s men have kept clean sheets during victories over Faroe Islands and Northern Ireland, so the team is moving in the right direction.
A game against Brazil is perhaps a harsh way to assess how far an improving team have done, but it will be interesting to see if they can make it anything like as competitive as the Spain game was.
Brazil will have a strong squad to choose from, with Inter Milan’s Lucio and Maicon as well as Chelsea’s David Luiz and Barcelona full-back Daniel Alves likely to feature, so it is going to be a tough challenge for Scotland.
With the game being played at the Emirates as opposed to Hampden Park, it also takes away the intimidating home crowd that rattled Spain.
There is nothing to lose for Scotland though so they should go out there and enjoy themselves. They have a chance to make a name for themselves and make Scottish football history, so it is all to play for.
