Manchester United host Arsenal this weekend in undoubtedly the pick of the Premier League fixtures.
There is so much to talk about with regards to this fixture. Manchester United’s youngsters, Arsenal’s lack of transfer activity and of course the rivalry between Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger being renewed once again.
First things first though, this is a game between the Premier League Champions and a team that needs to get their season back on track.
While Manchester United have looked irresistible in the first couple of games to record two victories, Arsenal have struggled with a draw and a defeat so far.
Wenger’s men did respond well to losing Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasir by securing their place in the Champions League with victory at Udinese, but they are still in need of directions to find the road to recovery.
They couldn’t ask for a tougher game this weekend either. Having travelled to Italy in midweek, a trip to Old Trafford is far from ideal. They are underdogs and there is every possibility their season could get a little worse before it gets better.
However, they should approach the game positively. They should see this as a big occasion that can get their Premier League campaign bang on track.
Victory at Manchester United and everything will appear more positive. It’s a tough ask, but Arsenal must believe in themselves.
As for United, they will simply be looking to continue in the same fashion in which they have started. Two wins from two, five goals and a crop of young players that has had everybody talking about the new-look Manchester United.
Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have all played their part already this season. Then, with Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young already working together superbly, there really is a devastating look about the Red Devils this year.
Looking at the team news, Manchester United’s main concern is over Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand. The latter could return for Sunday’s clash, but if not, Ferguson will have to rely on his inexperienced defence once again, something he will have little problem in doing.
As for Arsenal, Gervinho – who impressed in midweek against Udinese – is suspended, while Jack Wilshere is also out through injury. New captain Robin Van Persie will once again lead the line alongside Theo Walcott.
