Liverpool v Braga

Posted on 17 March 2011 by trooney in Football, headline

Liverpool continue their Europa League campaign tonight when they take on Braga at Anfield.

The Reds trail 1-0 after the first-leg, so they will need to turn the tie around if they are to progress. Kenny Dalglish has had many successful European nights as a Liverpool player and he will want this to be a memorable one for him as manager.

Braga proved in the first game that they have something about them, even if it was a very forgettable Liverpool performance.

Drastic improvement is needed tonight if they are to progress and an expectant Anfield crowd will want to see a lot more from their team. A similar performance to that against Manchester Untied recently would go down very well indeed.

Dalglish’s men were confident and played free-flowing attacking football and showed that on their day, they can defeat the best teams in the Premier League.

As far as team news is concerned, Andy Carroll will have to settle for a place on the bench once more. He is yet to start a game since his £35m move from Newcastle United as he gets eased back into action.

Steven Gerrard will not feature due to a knee injury and Luis Suarez is ineligible, but Daniel Agger should be available for selection.

It is a game the home side are expected to win, but because of their poor showing in the first game, it is one they have to win by two clear goals.

Therefore, they need to make sure they are a goal threat throughout, as well as keeping it tight at the back. After all, a goal for Braga would mean that Liverpool need to score three times to progress.

Overall, it should be an interesting encounter with Liverpool having to go for the win and live up to the expectations of the home crowd.
