Arsenal will be looking to get their Premier League title campaign back on track this weekend when they face Blackburn at the Emirates.
In what has been a somewhat disastrous few weeks for the Gunners, they have slipped to five points behind current league leaders Manchester United.
They have also lost the Carling Cup final and crashed out of the FA Cup and Champions League.
Arsene Wenger’s men can at least now focus all of their attention on the Premier League and considering they have a game in hand over Manchester United, they are still very much in the race.
It is important they get back to winning ways this weekend though, having dropped points against Sunderland and West Brom in their last two Premier League games. This is far from title winning form and they must get back on track as quickly as possible.
Much like the game against the Baggies before the international break, Arsenal will find it tough against a Blackburn side that is fighting for their lives.
We are at the stage of the season where every single game is crucial for teams at the top and bottom of the table and Steve Kean’s men certainly need the points.
On the surface of it, it appears as they are in mid-table mediocrity as they sit 13th in the Premier League table. This is by no means the case though as they are just a single point above the relegation zone.
They are one of a number of teams that could be relegated to the Championship come the end of the season and talk of signing former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy must be put on hold until their top flight status is secured.
However, Rovers have a tough task ahead of them at the weekend. It is never easy going to the Emirates and getting a positive result and their task will be made even more difficult considering how focused Arsenal will be following the international break.
Although this doesn’t have the makings of a classic, if Blackburn can get the first goal – it will be an extremely intriguing contest.
Even if they manage to prevent Arsenal scoring for an hour or so, the intense atmosphere at the Emirates could lead to a fascinating contest between teams fighting for the lives at the top and bottom of the Premier League.
