Value in the big four

Posted on 10 August 2010 by admin in Football, headline

Despite Manchester City’s massive influx of players, the Premiership is still likely to be a two horse race between Manchester United and Chelsea.

However what are the chances of the remaining two teams of the Premiership’s big four? We all know about Liverpool’s disastrous 09/10 season which saw them finishing way down in 7th position. We also know how Arsenal lacked squad depth when injuries started appearing in their team. So what are their chances this season and what should you look at for your in your football bets?

Liverpool’s new manager Roy Hodgson has vowed to fans that he will reform the club. As well as persuading both Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres to stay at the club, Hodgson has also secured the services of Joe Cole. With a few more transfers likely, Liverpool will be back to full strength come the start of the season. You can back them on Betfair at 2.5 to finish in the top 4 at the end of the season. If Gerrard and Torres stay fit this shouldn’t be a hard task for them with the top 4 being familiar territory. If not, then a top 6 finish is priced at 1.35.

Arsenal achieved an early season victory in managing to persuade captain, Cesc Fabregas to stay at the club. Their eventual finish 10 points behind Manchester United last season highlighted the lack of experience and depth in their squad. Arsene Wenger has attempted to solve these problems by signing defender Laurent Koscielny and striker Marouane Chamakh. They could also benefit from a new goalkeeper, but it remains to be seen whether Wenger will dip into transfer funds to replace Manuel Almunia. Arsenal are priced at 1.5 to be in the top four at the end of the season, which sounds too good to be true, but with the threat of Manchester City and possibly Spurs as well, nothing is certain.
