Tomas Berdych vs Rafael Nadal – Wimbledon final

Posted on 04 July 2010 by admin in Tennis, headline

After knocking Andy Murray out of Wimbledon, Rafael Nadal may not be popular with a lot of British people at the moment, but he sure is ruthless. Nadal is a special talent and Murray even came out and said that there was nothing more he could have done to win the match.

It’s not a shock that Nadal is the favourite (1.37) going into the final today against Tomas Berdych, who himself has caused quite a stir this year at Wimbledon. Having reached the semi-finals in the French Open, Berdych has knocked out Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic on the way to the Wimbledon final. He is playing the best tennis of his career and is priced at 3.6 to win against Nadal.

After a few questions about Nadals form, he looked back to his best against Murray and it’s hard to see him not winning in the final if he is able to reproduce the same form. Having already won the trophy in 2008, Nadal knows what it takes to obtain it, although he will be hoping for a shorter match than the one against Federer in 2008.

People looking for tennis bets will be interested to know that the stats are in Nadal’s favour also. He has only lost one match since April (1 in the last 31) and has won his last 6 against Berdych.

Berdych will need to hit through the ball to expose Nadal’s weaker backhand and also try and gain points from his serve. Nadal’s superior agility means that Berdych will try to avoid long rallies, but sometimes this is inevitable. It looks like Nadal will win the match, but he will have a much bigger challenge than his French Open final match win against Robin Soderling.
