Premiership week 37 preview

Posted on 28 April 2010 by admin in Football

The Premier League focus moves to the top of the table with the relegation battle now sorted out.

Sunday sees Manchester United travel to Sunderland and Chelsea making the journey to Merseyside to play Liverpool. Both games are difficult and both are hard to predict.

All Manchester United fans will be hoping that Liverpool can do them a favour against Chelsea as they need a Chelsea mistake in order to win the title. Liverpool’s inconsistency this season makes their game with Chelsea impossible to predict. However Chelsea will consider it a difficult away game.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side know that their destiny is in their own hands. If Chelsea do win then it will pile the pressure onto Manchester United who play Sunderland in the late kick off.

Manchester United have simply no choice but to win to take the title race into the last game of the season. If Chelsea win and Manchester United lose then it will mean that the celebrations will be able to start in West London.

The race for the fourth Champions League spot will go down to the last game of the season. Tottenham Hotspur play Bolton at White Hart Lane on Saturday. Spurs will be confident of a win and will look to keep hold of the fourth place they currently have.

Manchester City against Aston Villa looks set to be an exciting match. Manchester City know they must win if they are to keep the pressure on Spurs. However, Aston Villa seem to have snuck back into contention for fourth place under the radar.

Martin O’Neill’s men were rubbished of having any chance of grabbing fourth place a few weeks ago. They now sit in fifth and will be hoping for mistakes from Spurs and Manchester City, which will allow them to move ahead on points.

One of the most important games of the year take place next Wednesday. Man City entertain Tottenham in a clash with makes up rescheduled fixtures. A win in this tie could potentially award one of these teams the 4th Premiership spot. If you want some football betting tips, see our guide.

Everton face a difficult trip away to Stoke City, which could dent their chances of securing a Europa League position for next season. Stoke have a very strong defence at home. This will be difficult to break through and Everton must win their last two games if they want to have any chance of European football.

The rest of the games see sides tussling for positions in the middle of the table and working on ways to simply increase their points totals. The likes of Sunderland, Birmingham City and Wolves have very little to play for.

For those sides who have gone down it will be important to maintain some pride ahead of next season in the Championship. Portsmouth’s fate was sealed a long time ago but there are lessons from this year for Hull and Burnley.

They should look at the example set by Newcastle United as they secured their place back in the Premiership last week. Hull and Burnley would have enjoyed their Premier League stay and will have learnt plenty of lessons to take back to the Championship next year.
