Christmas is over and the new year has started. This year’s festive form was a bit more stable than usual with only a couple of shock results. These being Fulham’s 3-0 win over Manchester United and Chelsea’s 0-0 draw with Birmingham, which continued their poor December form where they only won 9 out of 18 points.
This season looks likely to end up with a lot of goals from the strikers. We already have 6 players with 10 goals or more and we are only half way through the season. Premiership top scorer bets are proving popular, with Defoe, Drogba and Rooney all on 14 goals so far. Darren Bent is close behind on 13. Three of these top 4 strikers are English which is good news for the World Cup in June. You can get some great odds on top scorer betting at BetFred
The next batch of premiership fixtures start on the 9th of January. Chelsea will have to reorganise their team after the poor December form and loss of big names to the African Cup of Nations. Manchester Utd are only 2 points behind now, and Arsenal only 4 points behind with a game in hand. The most interesting upcoming fixture looks to be Liverpool v Tottenham on the 10th of January. With Tottenham pushing to stay in the top 4 and Liverpool pushing to get back into the top 4, this game is very important for both teams.
At the other end of the table, all the newly promoted teams have managed to be above the bottom 3 at the mid-way point. With Birmingham doing the best in 8th position, 1 point behind Liveprool. However there are only 5 points now between the bottom of the table and 10th position, so teams hoping to avoid relegation will have to make sure they keep focused and buy the right players in the mid-season transfer window.
