Premier League weekend preview – 9 games in

Posted on 29 October 2010 by admin in Football, headline

One of the biggest games this week will be Manchester United vs Tottenham on Saturday.

United are 1.65 to win while Spurs have a huge price of 6.2 for the away win. It may look a big price for a top five side, but when you look at the stats the odds are justified. Spurs have been unable to beat United in their last 22 meetings and 17 of those have been wins to United. However goals should always be expected when these two teams play. In their last three Premier League meetings 15 goals have been scored. Going on that fact, Over 2.5 goals looks a good bet to back at 1.7 while both teams to score at 1.72 also looks like a good opportunity to take.

Manchester United have won the last two games against Spurs with a 3-1 scoreline. For it to happen again you can expect odds of 13.5. United’s two front men at the moment, Dimitar Berbatov and Javier are both at 5.0 to be first goalscorer. With the current form of Hernández (three goals this week) it looks like a good bet to back.

We have the big Tyne-Wear derby on Sunday when Sunderland travel to Newcastle. There is just one point between them in the table, but Newcastle (a point behind) are the favourites for this match at 2.26. They have the home advantage with the win for Sunderland being priced at 3.7. Sunderland have failed to beat Newcastle at St James Park in the last five games. There have been a couple of draws and if you were predicting the draw in this game you can get 0-0 and 1-1 at 11.0 and 7.0 respectively.

Newcastle need to come back from their 0-4 to Arsenal in mid-week. Chris Hughton is under a bit of pressure after media reports suggesting he will be sacked. As ever Darren Bent is a big threat and 6.5 looks a good price for him to score first, and if you think Sunderland have what it takes, a final score of 2-1 to them is available at 14.0.

Liverpool are away at Bolton this week and will be desperate to string two wins together after their victory over Blackburn last week. Liverpool are 2.34 to win this game, with Bolton priced at 3.55 and the draw, 3.4. If you ignore their current problems Liverpool have won their last seven games against Bolton and a 2.34 price is excellent considering this. Five of those seven games produced clean sheets and for it to happen again you can get a mouth-watering price of 3.65! However, you have to consider the problems that Liverpool have had recently and they are yet to win at home. 1-1 and 2-2 scores are 7.4 and 19.0 respectively and are entirely possible especially considering the great start to the season Johan Elmander has had for Bolton.

We have a Monday night game this week where Blackpool take on West Brom. Priced at 3.05 Blackpool haven’t met West Brom in the top flight since 1970, although from their last four meetings in the Championship West Brom came out on top every time. Both teams have an attacking style so it’s a good idea to go with Over 2.5 goals at 1.81. Although they won at Liverpool and came close at Manchester City, Blackpool are yet to win a home game in the Premier League. Looking at West Brom, they have shocked three of the biggest teams, with wins over Arsenal and Man City and a draw against Manchester United. They haven’t lost since the end of August and the win price of 2.6 looks good if you want to back them. Looking at scores, if we are backing West Brom to win this one it only makes sense to go with a 1-2 score at 11.0.
