Early Championship betting

Posted on 30 July 2010 by admin in Football, headline

The Championship is always a lot more open than the Premiership and this is reflected clearly in the odds of the favourites Middlesbrough who are at 7.6. In the Premiership the favourites Chelsea are offered at 2.6 and it’s not until you get to fourth favourites Arsenal that you get odds of around 7.6.

That said, it’s worth having a punt on Middlesbrough to win the Championship title this year. Gordon Strachan has been hard at work putting together what looks like the strongest team in the league. Kris Boyd’s move from Rangers sends out a big message to other teams. If he lives up to his name as the highest scorer in the history of the Scottish Premier League then Middlesbrough won’t be troubled for goals this season. Add to this Stephen McManus from Celtic, Kevin Thomson from Rangers and Nicky Bailey from Charlton the team is looking very strong.

If you don’t fancy Middlesbrough, then Burnley will be looking to get back into the Premiership after being relegated. They are offered at around 11.0. Their team is pretty much the same as last season and they will be a tough force in the Championship again.

Another option for you is Sheffield United. They are a very consistent side having finished 8th, 2nd, 9th, 3rd, and 8th in their last 5 championship seasons. An offering of 22.0 could be a good bet for Kevin Blackwell’s team.

Lastly, if your football betting brain is telling you something different, then you might want to bet on Nottingham Forrest. At 9.0 they have a good chance and will be aiming to get back into the Premiership for the first time since 1999.

If Middlesbrough are to win the Championship there wouldn’t be anyone else who you’d bet on to be the league’s top scorer than the SPL’s highest scorer Kris Boyd. Back him at 8.2 and you can’t go far wrong.
