Champions League Quarter finals first-leg

Posted on 07 April 2009 by admin in Football

This week sees the first leg of the Champions League Quarter finals being played. Again the English teams have been strong with all 4 still in the competition.
United have a score to settle with Porto after they knocked them out of the competition 5 years ago. They will be looking to be a little strong defensively after conceding 2 goals against Aston Villa on Sunday and Federico Macheda could also be on the bench again after his stunning late winner that saw Utd win the game 3-2.

Robin van Persie has been ruled out of Arsenal’s game with Porto, but Walcott and Nasri both return to the squad. Looking at the stats, Villarreal have never lost a home game in the Champions League, so Arsenal with have to be at the top of thier game to overcome this statistic.

Once again Liverpool face Chelsea, which will be the fifth consecutive season. It is their 23rd meeting in five seasons in all competitions! The odds are stacked against Chelsea as they have not won any of their last seven European away matches and Liverpool have the top scorer this season in Steven Gerrard. Facts aside…a big match is expected!
