Brazilian Grand Prix 2009

We enter the penultimate race of the Grand Prix season today, where the teams line up at the Autódromo José Carlos Pace tracking in Interlagos, São Paulo. Last year this was the final race of the season, which saw Felipe Massa take first position, and a dramatic finish to see Lewis Hamilton clinch the Driver’s Championship by a single point.

This year things are a little diferent. After Massa’s accident earlier in the year, he will not be taking part in his home GP, and McLaren’s car problems at the beginning of the year means Lewis Hamilton isn’t in the title race.

Jenson Button had a good chance to take the title today and is currently 14 points above second place Rubens Barrichello. However Button only managed a qualifying position of 14th in the rain filled qualifying session. This was not a problem for the Brazilian Rubens Barrichello however, as he took pole position at his home race. Button will be massively dissappointed with this as this gives Barrichello a huge chance to gain 10 points on his teammate before the final race in Abu Dhabi.

Button’s only positive before the race is that Sebastian Vettel, the only other contender for the title, finsihed below him in qualifying at 16th.

SkyBet now have Barrichello to win the Driver’s Championship at 2.625.
