Euro 2008 betting

Posted on 29 May 2008 by admin in Football

So Euro 2008 is nearly here and its time to look at some of the bets available. This is a very good time to use some of the free bets offered by the bookmakers, especially if you are new to betting. There are lots of opportunities for new customers and you can really take advantage of the free bets.

We posted the groups a few days ago and they pose some interesting outcomes.

Only 2 from each group can go through to the quarter finals and this can usually be quite easy to bet on.

This is who we think will go through from each group:

Group A: Portugal, Czech Republic
Group B: Germany, Croatia
Group C: France, Italy
Group D: Spain, Sweden

All the free bets to bet on these can be accessed here

Group C has been named the group of death because of the 3 big teams playing in it France, Italy and Holland (sorry Romania). As only two can go through, we have picked France and Italy as they have both won the European and World cup in the past. Holland, although full of famous players and a great team considering their population (16 million), are a bit like England and don’t seem to perform.

Spain have been dubbed early second favourites to win the competition and are being backed by many English (thanks to Gary Lineker) after the England team failed to qualify. They too, like Holland never seem to get as far as they should do, but with players like Fernando Torres and Cesc Fabregas coming of age, they are tipped to do better this year.

Then there is Portugal with the mighty Cristiano Ronaldo. He is currently at 10.5/1 odds at betfair to be top scorer of the competition.

Germany are current favourites due to their tough playing style and all round squad mentality. Betfair again have the best odds at 5.1/1

Remember there are always surprises. Greece won it back in 2004, but it looks unlikely that they will even make it out of their group this year. Who knows. Maybe Romania can throw us a few surprises.
